WordPress vs Wix Website Design India — Which Platform Suits Your Business?

This is one of the most common questions I get from clients in India, Australia and the US: should we build on WordPress or Wix? The honest answer is that it depends on what you actually need, not on what is more technically impressive. I have delivered projects on both platforms and both have genuine strengths. The mistake most businesses make is choosing based on what someone told them rather than what their specific situation requires.

When WordPress is the right answer

Choose WordPress when you need deep customisation that goes beyond what a standard website builder allows — custom API integrations, complex membership systems, multi-vendor ecommerce, or a very specific design that cannot be achieved in a drag-and-drop editor. WordPress is also the right choice if you have a developer who will manage the site long term. The trade-off is ongoing maintenance: updates, security patches, hosting management, and plugin conflicts. I have seen WordPress sites go down because a plugin update broke something. That is not a Wix problem.

When Wix is the smarter choice

For the majority of small and medium businesses — service providers, local businesses, agencies, clinics, consultants — Wix is faster to build, easier to manage, and increasingly competitive on SEO when set up correctly. The platform handles hosting, security, and performance automatically. A Wix site that is well-structured with proper meta tags, internal linking, and regular content will rank. We have seen this firsthand with multiple client sites. The SEO question — WordPress plugins vs Wix native SEO

WordPress has Yoast and Rank Math, which are powerful SEO tools. Wix has its own SEO panel, custom code injection for structured data, and a sitemap system that works without plugins. The gap between the two has closed significantly. In practice, the platform matters far less than the quality of the execution. A poorly optimised WordPress site will not outrank a well-optimised Wix site just because it runs Yoast. Cost and timeline comparison for Indian businesses

A professionally designed WordPress website in India built on a custom theme starts from around INR 25,000–40,000 and takes four to eight weeks. A comparable Wix website can be delivered in two to three weeks at a lower upfront cost. Ongoing, WordPress requires hosting (INR 3,000–6,000 per year minimum for decent shared hosting) plus maintenance time, while Wix bundles this into its monthly plan. For most small businesses the total cost of ownership over 24 months is similar, but Wix gets you to market faster.

Our recommendation at Mkista

We work on both platforms and we will always recommend the one that suits your business rather than the one that earns us more. For most of our India-based small business clients, Wix wins on speed and cost. For Australian clients with larger, more complex requirements, WordPress often makes more sense. If you are unsure, contact Mkista for a free consultation and we will give you a straight answer based on your actual project.
